HELP Foodbank feed families

We’re so excited to once again support Foodbank through an in centre food drive and ultimately feed as many local and rural families as possible. Over 350 tonnes of food has been donated to Foodbank Qld so far. This has greatly helped to raise awareness of the Foodbank cause and greater knowledge of how widespread the issue of hunger is.

Mon 1 Oct until Fri 4 Jan 2019 simply purchase a few extra cans or non perishable food items while grocery shopping and place them in in our donation cage located outside Woolworths and ALDI.

Did you know that a quarter of families living in disadvantaged areas do not have enough food to feed their families?  Every week in Queensland 100,000 people rely on food aid from Foodbank Queensland, with a third of those being children.  Around Australia about 40% of the food distributed via Foodbank is delivered to those in need in rural and regional areas, and the demand from these areas is increasing with the ongoing effects of the drought felt here in Queensland.

For the tenth year running, Retail First has teamed up with All Purpose Transport to raise 40 tonnes of food donations, and to assist with Foodbank’s increased demand for food assistance over the Christmas season.

From now until Christmas, donation boxes are located outside every supermarket in Retail First shopping centres, encouraging customers to donate a couple of cans, a bag of pasta or a box of cereal – any non-perishable food items that could help a family in need.

All Purpose Transport will regularly collect and deliver these donations, and Foodbank will distribute them to more than 300 charity and welfare organisations in Queensland to provide to those who need it the most.

Foodbank Queensland’s CEO, Mr Michael Rose said that the ongoing support is very much valued, and he encouraged everyone to donate food at a local Retail First shopping centre.

It is such an easy and inexpensive way to ‘give’ this Christmas, and you will directly be helping a local or rural family in need.
